More than 200 new Rite Aid locations listed for closure: court docs

(NEXSTAR) — More than 200 Rite Aid stores have been designated for closure as part of the retail pharmacy chain's bankruptcy process, court documents filed last week show.

Two separate filings outlined the fifth and sixth rounds of closures, impacting more than 230 Rite Aid locations across 14 states.

Court documents identified the following stores for closure. It's worth noting that closure may not be imminent, as objections can be filed.

California

Connecticut

Delaware

Idaho

Maryland

Massachusetts

New Hampshire

New Jersey

New York

Ohio

Oregon

Pennsylvania

Virginia

Washington

Store closures are pending court approval.

Combined with previous batches, Rite Aid has now identified nearly 600 locations for closure.

Below is an interactive list of stores that Rite Aid has identified for closure in court documents as of June 9:

!function(){“use strict”;window.addEventListener(“message”,(function(a){if(void 0!==a.data[“datawrapper-height”]){var e=document.querySelectorAll(“iframe”);for(var t in a.data[“datawrapper-height”])for(var r,i=0;r=e[i];i++)if(r.contentWindow===a.source){var d=a.data[“datawrapper-height”][t]+”px”;r.style.height=d}}}))}();

The exact timeline of when these stores will close hasn’t been released. Local officials in several impacted communities have, however, shared notices it has received from the retailer regarding impending closures.

In Bakersfield, California, for example, a Rite Aid identified among the hundreds set to close will shutter by July 1, Nexstar’s KGET reports. WARN notices filed with the State of New York showed closures were scheduled to begin as early as June 4 for several Rite Aid stores in the state, though that date could simply begin the wind-down process for those locations.

Last month, nearly all of Rite Aid’s 1,240 stores were listed for sale as part of the bankruptcy process. Similar retail pharmacy chains may, however, be taking over those storefronts. As part of a May bidding process, CVS agreed to acquire and operate 64 Rite Aid stores in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. Specific details on this process, which is subject to final approval, have not been released.

Walgreens, meanwhile, reached an agreement with Rite Aid to acquire prescription files from some of its pharmacy locations across nine states.

Rite Aid previously said stores would remain open as they work with customers to transfer their prescriptions elsewhere, while pharmacies poised to take on Rite Aid customers say they’re prepared to help during the transition.
