First lady Jill Biden will travel to Paris on Saturday for the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral, her office announced on Tuesday.
She will already be abroad and travel from Doha, Qatar, to Paris that day before returning home to Washington on Sunday.
President-elect Trump is also planning to attend the reopening on Saturday in Paris and in announcing his trip, he praised French president Emmanuel Macron for his work restoring the cathedral.
“President Emmanuel Macron has done a wonderful job ensuring that Notre Dame has been restored to its full level of glory, and even more so,” he wrote on Truth Social. “It will be a very special day for all!”
The first lady and Trump recently were together at the White House when the president-elect sat down with President Biden last month as part of the presidential transition process.
The Notre Dame Cathedral suffered a devastating fire, with its spire and wooden latticework of its roof collapsing in the spring of 2019. According to the Notre Dame Cathedral’s website, there will be reopening ceremonies next Saturday and Sunday.
The reopening is part of a multiday trip for Biden, during which she will focus on her initiatives as first lady before leaving office in January.
The first lady is set to leave for Italy on Tuesday to visit the Naval Air Station Sigonella in Catania as part of her military family’s initiative. She will then travel to Abu Dhabi on Wednesday for a visit for the Biden Cancer Moonshot initiative and on Thursday will travel to Doha for a visit for her women’s health initiative.
