Goldfish Just Dropped an ‘Awesome Sauce’ Flavor — and It’s Weirdly Delicious

Goldfish might’ve just unlocked the secret sauce to a hit summer snack. 

The newest summertime flavor from Goldfish aims to capture the breezy tanginess of your favorite restaurant’s burger dressing. Awesome Sauce Flavored Crackers — a “sweet, smoky, and tangy” snack, in the brand’s words — is hitting store shelves this month. It’s available for a limited time only, and we’re pleased to share that it’s accompanied by a few other returning favorites. 

This saucy flavor is difficult to describe but “impossible to resist,” as the brand tells Food & Wine. 

“Goldfish Awesome Sauce Flavored Crackers cue that sweet, smoky, tangy sauce you find on your favorite burgers and chicken sandwiches,” Mike Fanelli, Goldfish’s senior director of marketing, tells Food & Wine. “The Awesome Sauce flavor notes include sweet mustard and creamy vinegar with a mild smokiness, and it’s named after a nostalgic playful saying that is undeniably Goldfish.”

In the announcement, Goldfish confirmed that Spicy Dill Pickle Crackers are returning this June. Following a wave of pickle-flavored frenzy last year — dill-flavored cupcakes, anyone? — the classic cracker brand tossed its metaphorical hat into the ring. At the time, the brand said this red-hot flavor would “deliver on flavor and fandom” for diehard pickle enthusiasts. 

Both Spicy Dill Pickle and Awesome Sauce crackers now have a suggested retail price of $3.69. (Fanelli suggests that they’re even better when eaten together, as the brand claims it tastes exactly like a chicken sandwich.) According to Goldfish HQ, the newest sweet-and-savory combination aligns perfectly with the brand’s entire lineup.

“When developing new varieties, the Goldfish team draws inspiration from popular tastes and emerging food trends to delight snackers of all ages,” Fanelli tells Food & Wine. “Our bolder, limited-time offerings are especially designed to broaden appeal with older snackers, while still providing a fun and exciting twist for families.”
