Emma Corrin, Jack Lowden, and Olivia Colman Have Been Cast in Netflix’s ‘Pride & Prejudice’ Adaptation, and We Are Seated

Given that each new day seems to yield an onslaught of bad news, it was a genuine delight to make my way over to Deadline this morning and find that the three leads in Netflix’s upcoming Pride & Prejudice series had been cast—and quite beautifully so!

None other than Emma Corrin will take on the role of Elizabeth Bennet in the six-part limited series, which actors including Jennifer Ehle and Keira Knightley have perfected in the past. I, for one, am excited to watch a nonbinary actor embody that legendarily gender-transgressive character—and I’m just as excited to see Olivia Colman step into the role of her fretful mother, Mrs. Bennet. I mean, Emma Corrin and Olivia Colman playing mother and child? BritBox subscribers, we are up huge! Sure, Colman shone as the dippy stepmom on Fleabag, but I think she’s more than ready to bring her various husband-seeking little chickens home to roost in an Austen adaptation.

With that said, any good Pride & Prejudice’s fate largely relies on the quality of its Mr. Darcy, and I’m more than satisfied with Netflix’s selection of Slow Horses star (and Saoirse Ronan husband!) Jack Lowden for the role. Is he Colin Firth in the wet shirt? No, and nobody ever will be, but between his acting chops and brooding good looks, he definitely seems up to the task.

Netflix’s Pride & Prejudice limited series is being written by Ghosts and Everything I Know About Love novelist Dolly Alderton, and Corrin is executive-producing alongside director and Heartstopper alum Euros Lyn, so my hopes are officially sky-high. Please, for the love of God, don’t dash them, Netflix! I really need this to be good! We all do!
