Although the 2024 Met Gala, held last Monday in New York City, was the talk of the town this week, there were plenty of other dazzling red carpets to wonder at, too. The best-dressed stars of the week were those who embraced Hollywood glamour on the step and repeat, wearing designs that delivered updated twists on both formal gowns and classic LBDs.
At this weekend’s Gold Gala, honoring Asian and Pacific Islander trailblazers innovating across industries, Cynthia Erivo shone in a sharp-shouldered black Balmain top and grape-print skirt (perfect for summer). Mean Girls star Avantika was also a vision, wearing a sculptural floral Geyanna Youness frock. And just as zingy was Meghan Markle, who emerged in Lagos dressed in a yellow sleeveless sheath dress from Carolina Herrera.
The week’s more demure ensembles were no less elegant. At the GLAAD Awards in New York City, Jennifer Lawrence channeled Old Hollywood style with a plunging black Alaïa gown. For the LA premiere of Furiosa, Anya Taylor-Joy went for a vampy LBD: a leather Acne Studios mini dress with a shaped bodice. Whether billowing or skin-tight, all of the week’s best looks put emphasis on refinement—yes, even the moto dress.
